  1. painful pelvic exam?
Every time I try to get a pelvic exam/pap smear, the doctor can’t do it because it hurts me so bad that I cry and scream and I almost threw up last time. I’ve only had one successful exam while awake. The other one I had was under anesthesia at a hospital, and I almost died because my lungs closed up from the anestesia. (Long story) Anyways, my husband and I are thinking of babies, but I need to get an exam first because my painful cramps may mean fibroids or even cancer. Hypnotherapy would be great, but it’s 150bucks. Has anyone ever had this problem? I don’t know where to go because doctors don’t understand and I am tired of feeling like I am being ripped apart ‘down there’ everytime I try to get an exam. Any suggestions?
Yes, there are other issues, and the part that is painful is when they try to insert the speculum. It is like a burning ripping feeling.

    • It’s extremely painful for me as well, but on main key is try to relax. You may ask your doctor to give you a muscle relaxer before the exam is done. Some will and some won’t give you one. But other than that, just bit hard on something so they can do the exam.

  2. Warfarin and Fibroids and Blackstrap Molasses?
Anyone out there that has fibroids (and all the joys that go with it) and is taking warfarin?
I am severly anemic, diagnosed with multiple blood clots in both lungs. I have extremely heavy…we’re talking floods here…periods from fibroids.
All my options seem to have alot of risk involved…just wondering if anyone out there has used blackstrap molasses while taking warfarin.

  3. Flexible Sigmoidoscopy !?
Well, I had one of these yesterday. NOT fun and totally unsuccessful.
The reason for having this procedure, was because I have a slight swelling, (which I was CONVINCED was an ovary problem). I also had an Ovarian Scan in the afternoon, which the radiographer said showed nothing wrong there. I had an early hysterectomy, due to fibroids, they left my ovaries ‘in’. I have this dull ache like period pain for the last two or three months, sometimes feels really painful, makes me nauseaus and literally sick.
I’ve had blood tests, came back normal. I’ve had 2 pelvic examinations, internal/external. I’ve had a smear test, no results back yet, even though it was about 4 weeks ago!
Not for one moment had I considered that a small swelling about three inches from my hip-bone, going towards my belly button, could be something to do with my colon ???? or intestines.???
Is this possible ? A Hernia was also categorically ruled out this week.
I’ve had days of prodding and poking and other undignified stuff.
Yesterday though, the sigmoidoscopy was AWFUL !
I had the enema thing, that worked well, then once on the couch in the procedure/operating theatre, laying there with a tube up my bottom and watching my own ars* in vivid colour on a screen a foot away, I thought it would be a doddle. NOT so, the first bit was fine and it was really interesting, you don’t normally get to see such things…but when it came to the Doctor pushing the tube, or trying to, round a corner, I shrieked. The pain was so bad, I made him stop and take the thing OUT! He ridiculed my decision, saying that even little old ladies can cope with this procedure, better than I had. That he’d only completed a third of investigation site than he had intended. Well, I tried twice…I still couldn’t take the pain.
Fact is, I’m no wimp. I’ve had lung surgery, and one other life saving Op, due to an accident and I swear, neither was as painful.
Has anyone else out there had a similar experience with a sigmoidoscopy? Is there a better…and as accurate test I could have done perhaps? as obviously I need to get whatever is causing the problem.. sorted out.
All I know is that I do not want another one of those! My Husband says we will do whatever we have to, to get me feeling well again but I guess we need to know other alternatives. Also, if it is something, that high up in my intestine, what could it be? Is it likely to be cancer, there is none in my family at all.
HOPE someone out there may have some good advice on this. Thank you. and sorry it’s a long drawn out question, I’m just worried.

    • Go back and when you do ask for a different doctor, that one should NOT have been riduculing your pain!! I was always taught “Pain is what the patient says it is”. I have no experience of these procedures as they arnt in my field, so sorry I cannot advise really about this, however I would make a complaint about this doctor as that is not on at all!! Good luck and hope you get sorted out soon.
